Please note that I support the second amendment of the Constitution, and I
am a member of the NRA.

Peter Perini, Candidate for Delegate, District 2A

2. Agree, though I feel some reasonable restrictions can be worthwhile.

Patrick N. Hogan, Candidate for Delegate, District 3A

--------------------------------------------------------------

I received and reviewed the questionnaire from your organization.
Thank you for thinking of me though I believe our views may differ on
some of the finer points of your questions. While I do believe in the
rights of law abiding citizens to responsibly own a firearm and for
hunters to own rifles as well. After that, I believe we differ in
opinion.

I do agree with the statement that government should not restrain
law abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights,
but I don't see how registration in any form necessarily does this.

For every study you can cite showing decreased crime from gun ownership,
a gun control advocate can show another showing increased crime. It's
a dead end argument. Furthermore, the issues of concealed weapon permits
and recognizing other states permits are two separate topics, and don't
necessarily have a connection to reduced crime. Also, doesn't creating
the process of a concealed weapon permitting process imply registration?
Doesn't this conflict with the intent of question #2?

Robert P. Wack, Candidate for Delegate, District 5A

--------------------------------------------------------------

I am a BIG supporter of gun rights and the 2nd amendment. Those
who know me can verify this.

Chris Cavey, Candidate for Delegate, District 5B

--------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with all your questions however I will reserve the right
to read any legislation that relates to questions 2 and 3 to be
sure that I would be in total agreement before I arbitrarily say
yes that I would vote for anything put before me.

C.O. "Buddy" Staigerwald Jr., Candidate for Delegate, District 6

--------------------------------------------------------------

I fully support everyone's second amendment rights. I
do not believe in slowly taking away that right by adding
new laws and regulations.

I do believe that the state of Maryland should be changed
to a "shall issue" gun carry permit. Since the second
amendment does state a "well-regulated" milita that
before a carry permit is issued that a person must
demonstrate proficiency with that gun.

Dilip Paliath, Candidate for Delegate, District 7

--------------------------------------------------------------

I agree that the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution provides
a right to bear arms. However, I disagree with your other two
statements. Just as 1st Amendment Free Speech rights are subject
to reasonable time, place and manner restrictions, so to, in my
judgment, can 2nd Amendments rights be subject to reasonable,
common sense limitations.

Walter E. Carson, Candidate for Delegate, District 9A

--------------------------------------------------------------

I do not believe in automatic approval for out of state
permit holders.

Steven M. Kraemer, Candidate for Delegate, District 9A

--------------------------------------------------------------

On Question #1 we have some disagreement on the constitutional
interpretation; the "well-regulated militia" is right there in
plain English, and I am well-versed in history as to the
intentions of the Founding Fathers.

That being said, I also recognize the great tradition of the
freedom of Americans to keep firearms. But there is no denying
the inherent dangers in that custom, especially in these violent
times. Therefore stringent accounting, registration, licensing
etc. are compromises that protect your tradition of keeping
weapons, while protecting your neighbors as well.

As I recognize the value of compromise, I would probably be more
effective in maintaining your freedoms than the recalcitrant gun
lobbies who refuse compromise and reject their neighbors' rights
to safety.

So I will have to disagree with the statement as it is written:

#2 These are not obstacles that create prior restraint, these are
common sense measures to ensure safety, whether they work perfectly
or not, much like vehicle or pet registration. It is not that much
to ask of you in order for you to have what you want and for me to
not have my safety compromised by it.

#3 Your research may show that, but not all researchers will agree
with the scientific basis of that research. There are many logical
fallacies used to promote the ratio of guns / crime statistics
argument. History shows even law-abiding citizens' guns are responsible
for a lot of damage.

Thank you for the opportunity. I have many other issues. If you have
members in my district, they should vote for me if they care about
education, environment, health care, agricultural issues, or fairness
in taxes for retirees, social security recipients, and middle class folks
in general.

Sincerely,
Tony McGuffin, Candidate for Delegate, District 9A

--------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the opportunity to respond (completed below) and I am
very sorry it took so long. As my web-site at
www.electguerin.com
explains, I am a staunch supporter of our 2nd Amendment Rights.
I was invited to speak at the Carroll County Gun Club after contacting
their President the week I filed in early July. I'll be there on August
5th at 8:00pm but it's not a fundraiser or an endorsement event - just
a chance to talk to members and to let them know that there are those
of us who still feel that the 2nd Amendment matters. And that the
current state administration's successful attempts to limit the right
to bear arms will become a lot harder when I get to Annapolis!
Mike Guerin, Candidate for Delegate, District 9B

--------------------------------------------------------------

CARMEN AMEDORI is one of the people who ASKED ME to run. For the last
decade, I have written LETTERS TO THE EDITOR of the Carroll County Times,
defending the 2nd Amendment. I don't just say, "WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KEEP
AND BEAR ARMS." Rather, I articulate the argument, and knock down the
opposition, point by point, using facts, reason, and research which is
available from John Lott, and other researchers.

Not only do I defend it when it is attacked, I use every opportunity to push
gun rights, even if the issue seems unconnected. A few weeks ago, I wrote
a letter to the Carroll County Times about Sex Abuse by some priests. They
used the word PEDOPHILIA. I pointed out that this means older men abusing
LITTLE CHILDREN. In fact, the proper word is PHEBOPHILIA, which means older
men targeting TEENAGERS. I then compared it to those who point out that 9
CHILDREN every day are killed with handguns in the U.S. The flaw in this
arguments is that the CHILDREN they refer to includes every CHILD under the
age of 21, and includes those shot by police, and drug gangs shooting each
other. Thus, on an issue that has nothing to do with guns, I manage to fault
the gun-grabbers by attacking their statements.

I have opponents who SAY they are protectors of the 2nd Amendment. But I
have PROVEN, in writing, over years, that I actually defend it.

Others will ask for you support; but no one DESERVES it more than me. I
have the DESIRE to defend the 2nd Amendment, and the ABILITY to defend it.
I'm 62, have been very successful, and could not be intimidated into selling
out the defenders of the Constitution. They can't threaten me. They can't
bribe me.

Larry Helminiak, Candidate for Delegate, District 9B

--------------------------------------------------------------

The key in my race is not just electing a Second
Amendment defender, it is electing someone with the skills to influence the
votes of other members of the general assembly. As a trial lawyer I can
argue these points effectively on an intellectual, emotional, historical
and statistical level.

For what ever reason I can not mark your answers so here is my response. I
wholly support an individuals right to own & carry firearms, however, this
is a very hot issue and I also believe compromise is sometimes better to get
most of what I want than nothing at all. Therefore, if it gets down to
registration for the right to carry I would still consider that a win. I
have previously served as a narcotics detective and seen the way the
criminal element uses straw purchases and in that light I would like to see
some type of check to keep guns out of the hands of the criminal element,
but I would also like to see jail time for convicted felons attempting to
purchase a firearm.

Incidents of crime increase when law abiding citizens
are not able to excerise there 2nd amendment right to
bear arms and protect themselves and their families.
We have seen this in Australia when armed assult increased
by 300 percent when guns were taken out of the hands
of law abiding citizens and similarly in London and
here in Washington DC.

Kevin L. Bruening, Candidate for Delegate, District 21

I lived in New York where the Rockefeller Laws and their restrictive nature
promoted gun running and the sale of illegal arms. While I do not care for
handguns as I see there proliferation among non law abiding citizens as a
public hazard ( I lost a brother to handgun violence) I believe that Law
abiding citizens should own whatever they wish and the market currently
offers.

The best deterence to the illegal proliferation of guns and gun violence is
to allow registered owners to have them with minimal if any government
interference; it works with ballistic missiles.

As a Libertarian, I am one-hundred-percent, absolutely, without
exception, dedicated to preventing any further obstacles to a
law-abiding citizen's right to own and to carry a weapon, and
to repeal those obstacles already on the books.

The following is from my web site (www.kleinonline.us/issues.html):

"The right to our own lives is the source of all other rights,
and the protection of this fundamental right is the purpose of
government. Whatever else the law does, it must never deny
law-abiding individuals the ability to procure the things they
need to preserve and to further their own lives.

It is a fact of modern existence that we all run the risk of
coming face-to-face with violent people who directly threaten
our very existence. These threats are, thankfully, quite rare? but
they do exist, and it cannot really be denied that there are times
when a victim stands a much better chance of survival if he or she
has a gun in his or her vest pocket. Consequently, I oppose any
restrictions at all on the ability of a law-abiding citizen to own
and to carry a gun for the purpose of self-defense.

There are other good reasons for opposing gun-control laws, but this
one is, to me, the most generally compelling.

What of those who have been convicted of violent crimes? Easy.
Loss of liberty is the just consequence of criminal behavior, and
it is entirely proper that dangerous criminals be permanently denied
the right to own a gun, preferably at the discretion of the judge
who hands out the sentence.

For all these reasons, I support the immediate implementation of
laws that would require the state government to:

*Remove all waiting periods, licensing or registration requirements,
direct or indirect price controls, and any other obstacles to the
purchase of guns by law-abiding citizens.

*Devise and execute a method of denying criminals the right to buy a
gun without interfering with the right of noncriminals to buy one. I
don't necessarily have a definitive suggestion here, but, given the
sophistication of current biometric and fingerprint technologies, I
am confident a solution can be found.

*Issue a permit to carry a concealed firearm to any law-abiding citizen
who requests one.

Neither common sense nor the available statistics offer much support for
restrictive gun-control laws. And those who'd like to restrict gun sales
-- or even remove guns from their current owners -- in the name of 'fighting
violence,' would do well to consider this question: How would you implement
these measures without using violence yourself?"

I fully support the right of ALL law-abiding citizens of America to
carry firearms. This right is spelled out in the 2nd Amendment of the U.S.
Constitution and must be protected. I agree with all three of your
questions. I will protect the Constitution, fight any legislation that
requires registration of firearms, as this listing could be stolen and used
by criminals. I also agree that citizens have the right to carry concealed
firearms. A criminal will be less likely to attack a citizen if they have
to guess if that citizen is armed.

1. I support the right for individuals to own guns. I have a number myself.
2. The second question begs to ask how are we to know they are law-abiding
residents if there is not a check on gun buyers?
3. Your third question is a tough one! I support that a resident should be
able to carry a gun if a need to carry a concealed weapon is shown but I am
afraid there would be far to many good intentioned acts that would maim or
kill innocent people if just anyone without a record could carry. I now the
argument that then only the bad guys have guns but we must reach a
compromise between your statement and no concealed weapons at all.

Leon McClaflin, Candidate House of Delegates, District 38B

I am a sportsman and understand the frustration that accompanies those
citizens who want to utilize their 2nd amendment right. If elected, I
will support legislation that will preserve my fellow Maryland Citizen's
2nd amendment right. I will also support legislation that will allow my
fellow Marylander's to carry if they choose to.

2. Diagree--Reason being if you want to drive you need a license. If you
want to carry a gun or own a gun what's wrong with registration and a
license as long as the process isn't cumbersome. I feel that if you apply
for a gun license it should be issued expeditiously (no more than a 72
hour wait.). However, having to go through 20,000 hoops just to own a gun
is ridiculous. No matter how strict my fellow legislator's make the gun
laws that wont lower violent crime. The reason being, criminals have one
thing in common, they break laws. They will obtain a firearm no matter
what the law states. The way you handle violent crime is to impose strict
sentences, death penalty. Hopefully, if the penalities are severe enough
it will act as a deterent to violent crime. Also, if citizen's could carry
firearms I believe that would act as a deterent as well. If you are a
law -abiding citizen than getting a license is no sweat.

3. Agree--My family is from Georgia and parts of Arizona. Violent crime
is low in those parts and I atest that to those states law to carry a
concelaed weapon. Criminals aren't so quick to rob or injure a fellow
citizen when the possibility of them having a gun is there.

I'm a candidate for House of Delegates in the 42nd district, running with
the Green Party. I support the rights of law abiding citizens to own guns.
I believe that anyone purchasing a gun should be required to take extensive
classes emphasizing all aspects of gun ownership, including safety. I
support licensing of guns, with licenses being expensive enough to make
people realize that gun ownership is a responsibility, and an awesome one
at that (perhaps in the $250 to $500 range). I believe that people should
not be allowed to own automatic weapons. I would not support the right to
concealed weapons.

Rick Kunkel, Candidate for Delegate, District 42

and #3 at all.

Jennifer L. Coates, Candidate for Delegate, District 44

question 1 - Agree entirely. It sounds trite to repeat it, but I do not
believe that "guns kill people, people do."

question 2 - I support the first sentence of the statement. I do not own a
fire arm, and do not have a thorough understanding of the state statute with
regard to fire arm possession. I believe gun owners in Md are required to
register with the state (this could be part of the federal law that requires
a background check). I believe a background check is a fair request, and
would not author legislation to eliminate it.

question 3 - haven't taken the time to fully consider this issue; my gut
reaction is that I am uncomfortable with such an allowance.

Dear Mr. Lee;

Please understand very clearly that I have not now nor do I intend

response to you other than to be polite and civil in response to
your inquiry (not your survye) in terms of your asking about a

You can only in truth and in fact record me as 'no response' to
your questionnaire and if you reveiw the following email exchange,

never responded to any of your questions. A copy of this exchange

Again, it was my intent to politely respond to your email 'inquiry',

be a lie. I believe we are finished at this point. Thanking you in

Than you for responding. It appears from what you've said you should
be recorded as "Disagreeing" on the last two statements. I'm not even
sure you agree on item 1, since it appears there may be a distinction
you would like to make between "law-abiding" and "responsible." It
also appears that you would object to non-hunters owning rifles as
well. Finally, your wording suggests that you might think a person
should only own one ("a") firearm.

However, it may be just careless drafting of your thoughts, so I'll
record you as a yes on item 1.

If you think this an unfair interpretation, please do hesitate to
