Maryland Insert for 2000 General Election
In April, with Bill Clinton at his side, Maryland Governor Parris Glendening (D) signed into law his newest attack on our constitutional rights, praising the worthless document before him and proclaiming the state a safer place for his efforts. In fact, this bill is so riddled with loopholes that it will require years of legal wrangling to sort out how Senate Bill 211 will actually impact our everyday lives.
...
Unmasked as pawns of MAHA and HCI are Speaker Casper Taylor and House Judiciary Chairman Joe Vallario, two legislators who had previously touted their own pro-Second Amendment leanings, yet were Glendening's biggest supporters during this fight. Taylor's work on behalf of Glendening is more than troubling given his repeated insistence that sportsman groups in his district actually favored the bill! Unbelievable!! And Joe Vallario's (D-P.G. County) was more than happy to let his Judiciary Committee KILL "Project Exile" punctuating Governor Glendening's cynical anti-gun agenda by thwarting a serious attempt at true crime control.
Thanks and appreciation go out to Republican Delegates Carmen Amedori and Joe Getty (district 5), Don Murphy (12-A), Tim Hutchins (28), and Don Elliott (4-B), whose stirring speech during the final floor action on the bill brought the packed gallery of pro-Second Amendment supporters to their feet. Democrat Delegated who stood our were Kevin Kelly (1-B), the lone Democrat vote against the bill in committee, and George Owings (27-B) who served as floor leader for pro-gun forces. Senate Standouts included Republicans Alex Mooney (district 3) and Andy Harris (9) and Democrat Phil Jimeno (31) who worked tirelessly to pass Project Exile legislation. And, no short thanks should be overlooked for all the pro-gun lawmakers who stood with law-abiding gun owners and voted against the Governor's demands.
