In February 2000, Gov. Glendening's office forwarded inaccurate information from Handgun Control Inc. (HCI) (former name for the Brady organization) to state legislators, doubling federal statistics on 1997 gun deaths in Maryland.  They claimed 1,408 firearm deaths for Maryland when there were in fact 710 recorded by the CDC.

HCI didn't correct their data until caught and reported by the testimony of Prof. John Lott.  This event was reported in the Washington Times article "Governor's aide sends Maryland lawmakers inflated gun-death data," authored by Margie Hyslop and the article is available through their archive service and at the web archive link: (http://web.archive.org/web/20020510222944/http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a38cfcd282f85.htm)

Gun control promoters have been caught in a number of deceptions like this over the years.  Deception is their stock-in-trade.
