The militia clause of the second amendment is clear -- the American people have a right to arms. The founders knew two things when they protected American rights to arms. Firstly they knew that domestic tyrants would be plentiful, and would have to be put in their place. That is why the American Revolution was fought. History has proven the founders correct. Secondly, they knew that revolution would be less likely with an armed population than with an unarmed one, since tyrants would fear to abuse an armed population. Given the great stability shown in this country compared to the rest of the world, the founders were correct about that too.

Having an armed population has insured American peace and stability. Armed law-abiding citizens have protected themselves and upheld the law against the lawless millions of times each year. That too has added to American safety.

The advocates of gun control are not fighting for safety for Americans. They are fighting to make the law-abiding less able to own guns through a crazy quilt of laws that make firearms sales and ownership difficult. Their approach, like other prohibition laws, will have no effect on the lawless who want guns.

They are fighting to make it easier for tyrants and thugs to succeed.

They are fighting to alienate an armed and currently passive population of law-abiding citizens.

They are playing with fire.

I urge you to ignore these stupid people and to resist their call for nonsense firearm regulations.
