The Izaac Walton League was founded in 1922 as a national conservation organization. Its 50,000 members are devoted to protecting America's soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife. It has adopted the following resolution in its July Convention (its 78th):
Enforce, don't add to firearm laws.
The League asks Congress and the state legislatures
to reject gun control proposals submitted by the President
and several state governors, which it believes miss the
mark for reducing violent crime and promoting firearms
safety. Instead it calls for vigorous enforcement of
existing firearms-related laws.
There were 23 total resolutions approved. Typically, the remaining resolutions have conservation related thrusts and, to illustrate, number 23 has title "Designate the South Platte a National Wild and Scenic River."
No one could make a creditable assertion that the League is an extremist gun loving organization. So, it is very significant that they have adopted this position.
The League's position gives the lie to the Clinton-Gore anti-firearm position that most Americans want more gun control laws. Only, the extremists who wish to play on people's fears to gain votes are supporting such measures as registration of firearms. Those extremist constantly argue that their inability to enforce existing laws justifies adoption of new laws.
We need a government that will enforce laws, not constantly try to impose new laws and regulation as a tactic to hide their incompetence. It is time for the Clinton-Gore government to go. We have had enought of them and their extremist supporters.
