Significant Accomplishments: Over the past five years I have become a
recognized leader for women and children's issues. I have had a major role
in influencing legislation and public policy including welfare reform, child
abuse, domestic violence/sexual assault, childcare, education, reproductive
rights and health care.

Example of Mentoring: Last year a political science major interned with me
for my re-election campaign. As the only statewide elected Democrat in my
county, I was the focus of an extremely negative campaign by the other
party. With the intern's help, my group maintained its professional
integrity and constructed a successful positive counter campaign. Today
Erica Miller is her college's student president. One of her plans is to run
for elected office.

Personal Accomplishments: Personally, I feel my most significant
accomplishment is that I raised two children as well-adjusted and productive
members of society almost entirely on my own.
