Elections are over and Casper Tayor lost.  We maintain this page as a record of material used.

Speaker Casper Taylor's anti-gun actions over the years surprise many.  He has cultivated hunters and shooting clubs to disguise his assistance in all of the major gun bills passed in the last 10 years in Maryland. But the Anti-Gun organization Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse (MAHA) sings his praise and they should know. The picture below shows Speaker Taylor cheerfully participating with President Clinton, Lt. Gov. Townsend and Senate President Miller as Governor Glendening signs the Responsible Gun Safety Act of 2000 to give Maryland a ban on most new handguns. The pictured children have been provided T-shirts with the message "Students Together Against Guns."

Speaker Casper Taylor's contribution to the passage of SB211 was praised at the signing ceremony by Senate President Miller who said:
"... the person I’m going to introduce is the leader of the House of Delegates,
the Speaker of the House of Delegates, without whose help this gun control bill
could not have been made possible, Casper Taylor."

Listen and see Speaker Taylor speak (Recording in Real Media format) at the signing ceremony and hear for yourself Senator Mitchell's praise.  Or, you can read what Speaker Taylor said along with Senate President Miller and Lt. Gov. Townsend (Transcribed from the Real Media Recording) at the signing ceremony.

Speaker Taylor has a record of support for gun control.  Speaking about Maryland Attorney General Curran’s proposal to ban the private ownership of handguns Speaker Taylor said: "I can envision someday getting there. There is nothing sacred about a requirement of society to include handguns."  (Cumberland Times-News, October 21, 1999)

We have quite a record on Speaker Taylor on gun control and other issues. This record comes from news media and public sources and has completely documented sources. We urge you to follow the link and read the assembled material. Please pay attention to how Speaker Taylor was instrumental to the passage of gun control according to MAHA. Speaker Taylor's record of voting for gun control measures is shown for SB211. Notice his record voting for earlier gun control also.
