Senator Ferguson:

It has never been my intention to carry on an e-mail debate with you. To reiterate: You e-mailed me (and a lot of other folks) one week ago declaring that we "beat" the Governor by eliminating part of his bill. You then went on to make certain statements regarding firearms which sounded, frankly, like they were coming from someone who doesn't know much about guns. All I did in response was ask you to explain how we "beat" the governor, (since the amended bill will have the same end result as the original) and what you meant with your firearms statements. You have never addressed those issues.

What you have done is lecture me about filibusters, accuse me of beating up on you, and, in the last message I received from you, compare yourself to a Vietnam veteran and me to a war protester who had never been on a battlefield. Each of these insulting and degrading messages were sent by you not just to me, but to everyone who received your original e-mail (to the consternation of many of them). In my reply to your last e-mail, I suggested that an apology from you was in order. Now, instead of e-mailing everyone on your list with your reply, you want to talk privately on the telephone.

Ad hominem attacks are the tools of desperate people who cannot defend their positions in a debate otherwise. Regrettably, I find that you and I have nothing to discuss.

Giff Nickol

Giff,

I'm not going to carry on an E-mail debate with you. Call me at 301-858-3704 in Annapolis and talk to me. Thanks.

Senator Tim Ferguson
