Delegate William Bronrott, D-Bethesda, 16th District:

"Instead of having the second worst traffic congestion in the nation, the National Capital Area should have a world-class balanced transportation system to serve our entire region."

"I've also said that everything should be on the table, including a second Potomac River crossing. Also on the table should be considerations about the environment, land use planning and the principles of Smart Growth." Regarding a second bridge, I'm sure the debate will largely focus on where and how such a bridge would be built. There is also an overriding issue of the enormous price tag for the road and mass transit system that's needed to get us moving."

"Also, we cannot afford to create a world-class transportation system unless it is a safe one. On top of the enormous emotional costs associated with death and disabling injury in crashes, motor vehicle crashes can paralyze the best of road systems."
