The following was taken without change from a web page for Maryland Del. Bronrott. Notice that he is endorsed by Michael Barnes, the current president of Handgun Control Inc. Notice also that Mr. Bronrott "sells" concern for public safety.
-------------------------------
Meet Bill Bronrott.
Consumer Advocate. Community Leader. Lifesaver.
Lifelong Montgomery County resident. One of Maryland's - and the nation's - foremost public interest advocates. A leader of whom Congressman Mike Barnes says,
"It is no exaggeration to say that many Americans are alive today because of him."
Launched the war on drunk driving
In 1980, while working for Congressman Barnes, Bill read about six-month-old Laura Lamb, who had become the nation's youngest quadriplegic when the car she was riding in was hit by a drunk driver. At the time, drunk driving was an unrecognized national disgrace. But Bill brought together two mothers, one from Maryland and one from California, to launch Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), a national movement that has reduced drunk driving fatalities by 40 percent.
Proven record of protecting families
Since then, Bill has built a tremendous record of protecting families.
Worked to establish the national 21 minimum drinking age law.
Helped create Project Graduation and SADD to stop teen drinking in the Washington area.
Helped pass seat-belt and child-safety seat laws nationwide.
Led the effort to pass Maryland's motorcycle helmet law.
Helped secure millions in federal funds to make Maryland's communities safer.
Key victories for Montgomery County
With Congressman Barnes, Bill stood up for Montgomery County on many issues, including:
Major funding to build Metrorail
Protecting benefits of federal workers and retirees
Cleaning up the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay
Spotlighting international human rights and Soviet Jewry
Reducing airline noise along the Potomac River corridor, and organizing a campaign to prevent drownings at Great Falls.
Our watchdog in Annapolis
The Bronrott plan includes...
Smart Schools...state funds to modernize our schools, reduce class sizes, and make classrooms safe for students and teachers.
Smart Transportation...to tackle gridlock with transit benefits for employees and increased mass transit, stop road rage and continue to get drunk drivers off the road.
Smart Growth...to curtail suburban sprawl, protect open spaces and revitalize established communities in our county.
Protect kids from drugs and alcohol...with zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol in schools.
Affordable, dependable, quality health care...by giving families the power to make health care decisions with their own doctor, and making sure HMO profits are never put ahead of patient care.
Crime and Gun Control... with increased community policing, "hot spots communities" program, handgun control, and tougher penalties for violent offenders.
Let's put an experienced and extraordinary leader to work for us in the General Assembly...by voting for Bill Bronrott for Delegate.
In addition to being a national leader in protecting families, Bill has deep local roots. He's a native of Montgomery County and a Bethesda homeowner. He's a product of the County public school system and he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Maryland. Bill's family attends Washington Hebrew Congregation.
